THE BLACKSOD BAY  1866 COMPANY

The Blacksod Bay 1866 Company is at its heart a storytelling company.

By exploring the rich history surrounding the shores of Blacksod Bay we bring to life folklore legend and fact .

Taking our material directly from written sources we bring the history of Blacksod Bay and the Erris region to life through our social media videos, live talks and performances.

The Sea and all things maritime are a big part of the history of Erris and so this too is a strong aspect of our identity.

Currently the group consists of Fergus Sweeney, Keith McDonnell and Fidelma Doherty.

Fergus is a freelance cinematographer and he handles most of our current productions from writing to filming and editing of our stories.

Keith is a stage actor for the last number of years and has taken on the new challenge as presenter with The Blacksod Bay 1866 Company.

Fidelma is the granddaughter of one of the last true story tellers in Ireland with over 10 years experience in stage acting and video presentation she too is a presenter with the company.

Future plans for the company are to establish its own creative space in the village of Blacksod allowing us to expand our productions and events and introduce new aspects to the business.
